I was frozen in the doorway. His eyes made all of the frustration and anger disappear and replaced it with harmony. I’d tried to ignore the part of me that liked him; I’d tried to ignore the part of me that couldn’t stop thinking about him. But I did like him and I did think of him most parts of the day. And the night too, actually. Noah was special to me, but I couldn’t quite figure out why. I liked him, but at the same time I couldn’t stand him for not telling me the truth.
I left the house and began my walk toward Olivia’s house, but I’d started to change my mind. The feeling of not wanting to be under the same roof as Catherine and dad was still there, but the feeling of wanting to be close to Noah was stronger. But I couldn’t turn around and go back, I’d have to explain why I came back and I didn’t have a believable lie.
After I had walked for some minutes, a body sneaked up next to me on my right side and walked with me. I didn’t have to look to know it was Isaac. He was the only one who would do that without saying anything.
“Let me guess” he said, but didn’t wait for me to answer before he continued talking. “You’re mad at your parents for something girlish and are now going to live with your best friend until they give in” he didn’t say it as a question but more as a statement.
I looked over at him and wondered if I was that predictable, and hoped not.
“Close enough” I said and looked forward again, mostly because I didn’t want to meet his eyes. They weren’t as pretty as Noah’s, but oh they were pretty. Isaac and Noah were very alike, but Noah was the better version of them in every way.
“What did you and your parents argue about?” he said and for once sounded very caring and like he actually wondered what was bothering me.
I was just about to answer the truth when I realized whom I was talking to.
“I’m not going tell you, I don’t know you” I said and stopped in the middle of the road to look at him. “Which brings me to another important fact, I don’t know who you are at all”.
He grinned and looked over my shoulder, where a couple was standing with their dog. They were probably out for the last walk of the night before going to sleep.
“What’s so funny?” I asked and crossed my arms over my chest.
He didn’t answer, but continued grinning and almost couldn’t hold himself from laughter.
“What’s your problem?!” I yelled at him and threw my arms into the air out of frustration.
“I bet you look very strange to that couple” he said and nodded at the couple not far behind me.
“What?” I could feel my eyebrows coming close together as a result of me thinking hard.
“To them it looks like you’re talking to yourself” he said and stopped grinning.
I tilted my head in confusion and just kept looking at him.
“Are you high?” I asked and watched him carefully in the eyes. Apparently your pupils get bigger when you are high. His wasn’t.
“I’m not high. I’m just invisible to them” he said and grinned again. “Obviously” he continued and shrugged.
“Obviously” I echoed and started walking again. The faster I could get away from him the better.
“You don’t believe me” he stated and walked beside me again. I tried to walk faster but since he was taller than me and had longer legs, my pace wasn’t hard to keep up with.
“You are starting to get on my nerves. Leave me alone” I said and walked as fast as I could, there wasn’t many minutes left until I would be able to see Olivia’s house.
He kept quiet the rest of the way and so when I looked at my right after a few minutes he was no longer there. My watch said 23:10 and I suddenly realized how tired I was.
I didn’t even think about why or how Isaac could’ve disappeared like that, without me noticing.
When I reached Olivia’s house I quickly explained what had happened before we went to bed. I felt safe and calm and fell asleep instantly.
The next day Olivia and I went to school together. I was lucky to survive the car ride; Olivia isn’t the most talented driver.
We were just about to walk into the classroom when someone grabbed my arm and thrust me backwards and out of the doorway.
“I need to talk to you,” a voice said, and not the one I had expected. It was Isaac, but to be honest I had expected it to be Noah. Mainly because Noah goes to the school and Isaac doesn’t, but also because I wanted it to be Noah giving me some answers.
A quick look into the classroom and I noticed the teacher wasn’t there yet. Olivia waved at me to hurry and I responded with a shrug.
I hurried after Isaac who has heading for the door that lead out to the parking lot. When I walked out of the building the door slammed shut behind me and I turned to it to make sure nobody was following us. This was my chance to get some answers.
“What are you doing here Isaac?” I asked and turned around to look at him.
He was gone. I looked around but I couldn’t find him.
“I’m here to show you something,” he whispered in my ear, but when I turned around he wasn’t there.
I spin around and looked for him but with no success. When I realized he wasn’t there I stopped and just looked forward. I blinked and the next second he was standing right in front of me.
“How-“ I began but had to swallow and calm myself down to make my voice louder. “How did you do that?” I continued and took at step back, away from him.
He took a step towards me and I backed until my back was pressed against the wall. Isaac was standing close to me, very close.
“Do you believe me now?” he asked and his dark eyes looked right into mine. “What I told you last night” he continued to make sure I understood what I meant.
I didn’t answer, because I didn’t know what I was supposed to say. It seemed like anything I would answer would make him snap. I was scared.
“I can decide myself if I want you to see me or not” he said and suddenly he was gone again.
I was positive it was my mind playing games, because this couldn’t be real. People can’t disappear and appear however they like. This couldn’t be reality.
“I’m here, but you can’t see me because I don’t want you to” he said in a low voice which was now close to my face. It’s like I could feel his presence but I couldn’t see him. He was there, but I couldn’t see him. It was frustrating and scary.
“Don’t do that to her” Noah said and walked towards us. I was relieved to have him with me, because I knew he wouldn’t let Isaac hurt me. His eyes were dark and he was standing close to Isaac with a hand on his shoulder.
“What do you mean? I’m showing her what it’s like to be one of us. It’s a blessing rather than a curse” Isaac said and grinned as Noah dragged him back and away from me.
I didn’t say anything, again. Being quiet seemed like the best option in this situation.
Suddenly, Noah raised his arm and before I could realize what was going on he hit Isaac with such I power I could have sworn I heard bones break.
Isaac didn’t seem very harmed, and launched a hit for Noah who slipped away just in the right second for Isaac to miss him and hit the tree instead.
I didn’t move, I just stood there paralyzed and waited for something else to happen. Noah was nowhere to be seen. Maybe he left, maybe he was still here but I couldn’t see him. If I had been confused before, it was nothing compared to what I was now. My mind was a big mess and I didn’t understand any of the things that had happened just minutes before Noah came. My brain was working at full capacity trying to figure out the mystery.
I was slowly beginning to breathe faster as Isaac came towards me with blood on his shirt. That’s when I decided I wasn’t going to be a part of whatever those two had in mind.
“Stop!” I yelled at Isaac who grinned but, to my surprise, listened to me and stopped.
I looked both ways of him to try to calculate my chance of succeeding in running away from him. He understood what I was thinking and stopped grinning as he took a few steps back.
“I’m not going to hurt you” he said and took a quick look behind him before he continued. “But you are going to need my help. I might not want to hurt you, but I can’t say the same about the others”.
“What others?” I asked.
“Enough” Noah suddenly appeared again and turned towards Isaac. “I’ll take care of this from now on, apparently you’re not capable of doing anything right” he continued and then turned to me.
He didn’t say anything; he just looked at me and searched for any sign of emotion, which he didn’t find.
Äntligen ett nytt kapitel! Jag har inte hunnit läsa igenom det, utan ville bara försöka få klart det till er. Hoppas ni gillar det, är det någon som vågar sig på en gissning av vad Isaac och Noah är?
